Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked as a skincare formulator, educator, and author. Early in my career, I began questioning why so much skincare education focused on nutrients and phytochemicals when the skin isn’t a digestive organ and has a very limited ability to absorb nutrients topically.

Skincare products were being marketed as “nutritional superfoods,” yet the science didn’t support meaningful skin benefit.

That question took me deep into the science of skin nutrition and ultimately away from my formulation lab. I realised that nutrition in cosmetics was largely a marketing story and not a skin-health solution.

This shift led me to stop teaching product formulation and instead focus on evidence-informed skin nutrition; the biology, physiology and systems that genuinely influence skin health.

That decision became the foundation of the Skin Nutrition Institute.
